Doris Mary Gonsalves (Hughes), 80, passed away on June 2, 2023.
Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Germaine (Jacques) and George Hughes.
She was the beloved wife of Edward O. Gonsalves (Gunny) for fifty-eight years.
Besides her husband, she is survived by her sister, Eleanor Birkitt, and her sister-in-law Joyce Sevigny.
She also leaves behind her nieces, Kathleen Doris Conti, Monique Hobbs and Rochele Vinton and her great nieces and nephews, Evan Burns, Grace Conti, Ellis Hobbs IV, Madden Vinton, Viviana Hobbs, Paxton Vinton, Jolie Hobbs and Nolan Vinton.
Doris graduated from St. Xavier’s Academy and immediately started working for Amica Insurance Company starting as a file clerk and rose to become the Administrative Assistant to the President of Amica Insurance Company retiring after forty years.
Doris was a lifelong parishioner of SS. Peter and Paul Parish.
Doris loved to shop, walk and loved visiting with her family and many friends. Doris was a gentle woman of grace and dignity. Her twenty years of battle with Parkinson inspired all who knew her, she never complained.
Doris will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
A private Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Anthony’s Church, West Warwick followed by interment in Notre Dame Cemetery.
