Ellen Davol Obituary

Ellen Irene (Cundy) Davol, 96, of Block Island, passed away December 8, 2020 surrounded by her loving family at home.

She was predeceased by her husband Bernard J. Davol and loyal friend and late husband, Charles G. Viall, Sr., and companion Jack Allen.  Born in Norwich, CT a daughter of the late James and Ellen (Mercier) Cundy.

Amazing mother to Charles G. Viall, Jr, Alan G. Viall, and Elizabeth G. Dyer; proud and loving grandmother of Christine Orrechio (Michael)Kayla Viall, Eliza Etter (Joshua)  Jake Dyer, and Olivia Marsiglia, and the late Henry Marsiglia Viall and three great grandchildren, Danielle, Andrew, and Christina, and a fourth great-grandchild soon to arrive in November.  She was predeceased by nine younger siblings, who she helped raise and continued to be 'Auntie Ellen' to their children, after their passing.

Ellen was raised in the Phillipsdale section of East Providence, spending time on Monhegan Island, Maine, and married and moved to Rehoboth, Massachusetts and later Warren, RI, East Providence and to Block Island in 2011 to live with her daughter, where she passed peacefully surrounded by her pets and family at Bush Lot Hill.  A lifelong baker she was known for always having a batch of brownies ready, and passed this love on to her granddaughter Eliza.

She was employed in the restaurant industry, most notably Jed Hanley's, Fore n' Aft in Warren.  A Friend of "Bill W.' and through her last 39 years helped countless people with her tireless dedication, leaving a lifetime of hope to so many.   Her loyal friends, especially, Nancy, Debbie, Barbara, Betty, Robin, Peter, and Hebert.

During her time on Block Island was embraced by the community, especially the friends of the Senior Advisory Committee, Mary and Marg Donnelly, and her 'Roll Call' daughters, Linda, Heather, Terri, and Greta.

Gram received constant love and attention from extended family, and friends, especially, Sean, Andrew, and Ryan McGarry and all of the pets she so endlessly spoiled, especially Maggie, and Coco, and numerous feral cats.   The hospice team, Dr. Russell Corcoran, the late Danielle Hazard, Molly O'Neill, and Megan Nelson, gave her comfort and love, for which we are so grateful.  The kindness given to her from all, cannot be measured and filled her heart with joy.  It must be mentioned that Ellen could not have looked so beautiful her whole life without her hairdresser and god daughter, Charlotte Castro.  Even days before she passed she still was planning to get her 'hair done'.

Gram, is so very missed, and each day she shows up somewhere. . .  her smile, her heart, her wisdom, and her mad laundry skills,  brought joy to the ordinary.

"Goodnight Irene", you were so incredibly loved.
