Our beloved brother, John Francis Streeter, “Hawk”, passed away on February 20, 2023; he was 69 years old. John was born April 11, 1953.
John was a certified golf superintendent at many golf courses in Rhode Island, Connecticut and New York. They include: Woodland Golf Course in North Kingstown, Valley Country Club, Alpine Country Club, Cliffside Country Club in Connecticut, Woodbridge Country Club in Connecticut and North Shore Country Club in New York. John also had many accomplishments during his career. In 1983, while at Valley Country Club, he founded the Rhode Island Scholarship and Research Tournament.
John went on to become President of the Rhode Island Golf Course Superintendent Association and was awarded the Distinguished Service Award at the 1985 Words Unlimited Banquet.
After moving to Connecticut, he became President of the Connecticut Golf Course Superintendents Association, as well as Superintendent of the Year in 1993. Other accomplishments include a past President of the Tri-State Turf Grass Research Foundation and an over 40 year membership of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America.
Golf and family were John’s life!
John is predeceased by his parents, Maurice and Vivian (Cotnoir) Streeter, brother David, and his wife Pauline.
He is survived by siblings, Maureen, William, Matthew, Mark, Amy, Andrew, and Susan and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Saturday, March 25, 2023 from 9:00-10:30 a.m. in the PRATA-GALLOGLY Funeral Home, 78 Providence Street, West Warwick followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, 854 Providence Street, West Warwick. Inurnment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Warwick. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the RIGCSA Scholarship & Research Fund, P.O. Box 603, North Scituate, RI 02857 in his memory would be appreciated.
