Shugrue, John Michael “Jack”, 80, of West Warwick, passed away on May 4, 2022.
Born in Providence, son of the late Dorothy E. (Campbell) and Martin R. Shugrue Sr. He was a long time resident of West Warwick.
Jack loved his children, grandchildren and community. He contributed many years to the youth of West Warwick, through his work with the West Warwick Soccer Association and as Assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 2 Natick, Boy Scouts of America, Narragansett Council. Jack fought for and served his country as part of the U.S. Army, and was a proud American. He was a member of the Saint Joseph parish in West Warwick for fifty years.
Jack had a sharp wit and a keen mind, knew his history, and had a great sense of humor.
A dedicated Shop Steward for IBEW Local 2323, he represented his brotherhood for over 2 decades. After 32 years with the phone company, he retired and continued to lunch regularly with his “Ma Bell”, New England Telephone, and Verizon co-workers.
Jack is survived by his children, daughter, JoAnn M. and her husband Henry R. Guzeika of West Greenwich, son, Michael J. of Cranston, their mother, Ann J. (Notargiacomo); grandchildren: Alex, Justin, Alyssa, Henry JT Guzeika, and Ellie Mae Guzeika; three sisters, Dorothy M. Shugrue and her partner Joan Pesce of FL, Roberta and husband Joseph Notargiacomo of TX, and Jane Marie Shugrue of Smithfield; godchildren Catherine Shugrue dos Santos of NY, Kelli (Notargiacomo) Haugen of MN, Lauren Shugrue of CT, and Susan (Birk) Kosikowski of CT; many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Jack is preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Martin R. Jr., MaryAnne, and Thomas F. Shugrue.
His funeral will be held Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. from the PRATA-GALLOGLY Funeral Home, 78 Providence Street, West Warwick, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, 854 Providence Street, West Warwick. Interment with military honors will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket.
