Marcel J. Cayouette

CAYOUETTE, Marcel J., 82, of Coventry, passed away Monday evening, August 29, 2022 at home surrounded by his loving family.

He was the beloved husband of Janice H. (Messier) Cayouette, they had been married for sixty-one years.  Born in Providence, a son of the late Marcel J. and Rita (Chalifoux) Cayouette.  He was a resident of Coventry since 1961.

Marcel was a third generation cobbler and proprietor of Cayouette Shoe Repair in West Warwick for fifty-five years before retiring in 2016.  A Vietnam War era Navy Veteran, participated in the Bay of Pigs Invasion in 1961 and assisted with the recovery of American Astronaut Alan Shepard.  Marcel was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and in his younger years played semi-fast pitch softball with Veterans Square Market.  He was a communicant of Our Lady of Czenstochowa Church, life member of the Portuguese American Sport Club, Club Frontenac and a member of the West Warwick American Legion Post 2 and the St. Anthony’s Council Knights of Columbus #181.  Marcel and Janice loved to travel, exploring countries all over the world and spending winters in Florida and Puerto Rico.

Besides his wife he leaves two sons, David Cayouette and his wife Lauren of Central, South Carolina and James Cayouette and his wife Tammy of Coventry; five grandchildren, Rachelle (Michael), Nicole (Derek), Jordan (Holly), David, Jr. and Danielle (Rob); three great grandchildren, Ayden, Wyatt and Russel and four siblings, Doris MacDonald, Cecelia DiCarlo (Dennis), Dennis Cayouette and Jeanne Plante.  He was the brother of the late Gerard Cayouette.

His funeral will be held Saturday, September 3, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. from the PRATA-GALLOGLY Funeral Home, 78 Providence Street, West Warwick followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Czenstochowa Church, 445 Washington Street, Coventry.  Interment with military honors will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Warwick.  Visiting hours Friday 4:00-7:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, contributions to Meals on Wheels of RI, 70 Bath Street, Providence, RI 02908 in his memory would be appreciated.   Information and condolences, please visit: www.PrataGallogly.com
