MAYNARD-LEVESQUE, Margaret (Briand), of Coventry, passed away of natural causes on Sunday, May 30, 2021 at the age of 99. She had resided in Coventry for nearly 75 years, most recently at Brookdale Senior Living and previously at Johnson’s Pond and on Boston Street in the village of Anthony.
Mrs. Maynard was the wife of the late Dr. Jean Maynard, who died in 2006 and the late Lucien A. Levesque who died in 1991. Born in Fisherville, MA on December 3, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Mary T. (Martell) Briand.
She graduated from public schools in South Grafton and Grafton, MA and attended Rivier College in Nashua, NH. She left Rivier in 1941 to work as a secretary in the medical department of State Mutual Life Assurance Co. in Worcester, MA. During World War II, a friend from college, Vivian (Levesque) Hebert, introduced Margaret to Vivian’s brother, Lucien Levesque. Margaret and Lucien married in 1946 and moved to Coventry, where they raised six children: daughters, Susan Short (Francis) of Richmond, RI, Joan Levesque-Arguin (Ralph) of Rehoboth, MA and Barbara Levesque of Rehoboth, MA and sons, David Levesque (Jane) of Palm Bay, FL, John Levesque (Anne Foster) of Seattle, WA and Robert Levesque (Cynthia) of Minnetonka, MN. Besides her children, she is survived by eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren, four step-children, eight step-grandchildren and four step-great grandchildren. She also leaves a sister, Anne Loughlin of Northbridge, MA and numerous nieces and nephews. She was a sister of the late Joseph Briand of Whitinsville, MA and Rose Kerwin of Gulfport, FL.
Mrs. Maynard had been a communicant of St. Vincent de Paul Church in Anthony since the late 1940’s, having served at various times as a lector and extraordinary minister of Holy Communion, a member of the Ladies Guild and a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Altar Guild. She also was active in the Marie Rivier Associates and the Friendly Visitors, bringing Holy Communion to shut-ins and nursing home residents.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at 10:00 am in St. Vincent de Paul Church, 6 St. Vincent de Paul Street, Coventry.
