Robert F. Holden, 89, of West Warwick, passed away peacefully at the HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence, Wednesday, September 15.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to a memorial service in his honor at the PRATA-GALLOGLY Funeral Home at 78 Providence St, West Warwick, RI on Thursday, September 23, 2021, at 11:00 am. Burial with military honors at the RI Veterans Cemetery in Exeter at 1:30 pm.
Born in Central Falls, RI, Bob was the son of the late Christine Riley Holden and the late Robert Holden. He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth “Betty” (Whalley) Holden. He is survived by his four children: Robert (Jeanne) of Springfield, VA, Stephen (Donna) of Coventry, RI, John (Denis) of Queens, NY, and Christina Holden-Shea (Charles) of Charlestown, RI; and nine grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Arthur Holden.
Smart, witty, and opinionated, Bob loved to tell stories and give advice. He was a proud Navy veteran (Korean War) and self-taught theologian, a nuclear chemist and a former policeman, a boat builder and a cartoonist. He was extremely creative, devoted to family, and generous – especially to his grandchildren.
