Sister Rosamond Ethier, RSM

ETHIER, RSM, SISTER M. R0SAMOND, 87, a Sister of Mercy for 68 years, died Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at Mount St. Rita Health Centre.  She was the daughter of the late George and Rose (Barba) and sister of the late Ann Meuser.  Sister is survived by her niece, Roseanne Youngblood and her Community of Mercy and faithful friends.

Sister Rosamond’s career as an educator spans 50 years, 24 of which were at Salve Regina University.  After teaching at the elementary and middle school level in the Diocese of Providence for 17 years, she served as principal of St. Brendan School, then as chair of the department of humanities at St. Xavier Academy. From 1978 until 1983, Sister was vice principal of St. Raphael Academy.  While earning her doctorate degree in government, she joined the faculty of Salve Regina.

During her tenure at Salve Regina, Sister Rosamond served as a member of numerous professional organizations and developed a politics program that was known for being rigorous and challenging. She was a well-educated woman who educated others well.

After retiring from Salve Regina in 2007, Sister enjoyed a busy retirement. She continued to show her mercy heritage by serving on the board of Mount St. Rita Health Centre and volunteering at the Warde-Robe, a ministry of the Sisters of Mercy, where she loved being with the people who came there. Well done Rosamond, good and faithful servant. Rest in peace.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, July 17, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Vianney Church, 3587 Diamond Hill Rd., Cumberland.  Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mercy Prayer Service at 9:45 a.m.  Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Sister’s memory to the Sisters of Mercy, 15 Highland View Road, Cumberland, RI 02864  www.sistersofmercy.org/donate, would be appreciated.  Information and condolences please visit:www.galloglyfuneralhome.com
